Aquaculture of Brasil: Aquishow 2022

Five national companies, several of them located in Puerto Montt, participated together with #ProChile in the largest aquaculture fair in Brazil: Aquishow 2022, held in the city of San José de Río Preto, São Paulo.

Álvaro Camargo Jr., from the Commercial Office of ProChile in Sao Paulo, highlighted the good reception achieved by Chilean companies in that country, where the experience and development achieved by Chile in terms of aquaculture was valued. Our Aquabench Manager participated in this fair where he was able to learn about the progress in the development of this industry “Aquaculture in Brazil presents important differences from what we know in Chile.

Although the volume of production is similar (20% less) it has a enormous potential for development and growth. They currently produce more than 800 thousand tons of farmed fish, half of this volume being the production of tilapia. The rest is native fish. Most of this production is destined for the domestic market. An important difference is that production is very fragmented in many small companies and producer cooperatives. unlike Chile where the actors are few and have been consolidating.

We believe that over time it is likely that the industry will consolidate and professionalize its operations much more, improving the capture and management of productive and health information, which is a basic requirement for the development of data analysis services, such as those perform #Aquabench
